Holistic Health Care Opportunities

Are you interested in a holistic approach to your animal friend's disease prevention or treatment of a current health imbalance? Mendocino Animal Hospital is proud to offer this approach to the growing number of community members who recognize the value in treating our patients as a "whole" — with extra attention paid to keeping the body, mind, and spirit as healthy as possible throughout life.

Dr. Katy Sommers and her assistants Michael and Char work together as a team to provide care for our patients whose family members have expressed an interest in holistic medicine, alternative therapies such as acupuncture or herbs, or natural remedies and supplements as an integral part of the healthcare we provide. The holistic modalities that are used by Dr. Sommers include:

wholesome diet evaluation for maintaining wellness and therapeutic diet recommendations for disease control
recommendations for natural supplements or herbal therapies
acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine
chiropractic care and homeopathic evaluation by referral
massage and basic physical therapy exercises for home use for stiff or injured animals or post-surgical care

If you are new to Mendocino Animal Hospital, a one-hour appointment is needed for the initial evaluation. If your companion animal is under the care of another doctor at Mendocino Animal Hospital, you may schedule a half-hour "In House Holistic Consult," where Dr. Sommers will review your animal friend's current healthcare program and offer an additional integrative medical plan that will often incorporate the modalities listed above.

While Dr. Sommers offers Holistic Phone Consultation to existing Mendocino Animal Hospital Patients, she regrets that her current patient caseload will no longer allow her to provide phone consultation to outside patients.
